Rain rain.. DON'T go away! Please..

I was enjoying my Saturday evening reading others’ blogs, searching for job and listening to ‘Phir Mohabbat’ from the movie Murder2. It suddenly started raining outside and the electricity board had already decided to freak everyone out by maniacally turning on and off the power. It was raining so heavily that the house had become as dark as night. I am particularly not afraid of the dark but this had really pissed me off. I wished my husband had off this Saturday  and Dhaam Boom!! Thunder had me almost jumped from my seat. One moment passed and the lightning made the whole house full of light for a split second and I were deaf, I would have easily mistaken it for someone clicking a picture with flash. Sometimes I feel that when God gets in a mood for photography, the thunder and lightning happens. The thunder is the click sound of his giant camera and the lighting its flash. I saw the time. It was 5pm. Still 2 to 3 hrs for my hubby to reach home. No power is OK. But this power on and off once in every two minutes is a headache. I thanked god (for the nth time) for making me have a laptop so that I will not be bored to death on days (if any) with no power. I decided I will have tea and was about to go to the kitchen when the doorbell rang.

It was my husband. I was missing him but when I saw him I went numb. I stood there looking at him debating on which emotion to show - happily surprised or shockingly furious. Because he was completely drenched from head to toe and was standing there showing all his teeth (read his part of the story here). He gets cold every fourth day for god-knows-what reason and sitting in AC the whole day in office (and at times night shifts too) just makes it worse. He had got so much used to wrinkling his nose to not let it run that even if he did not have cold; he used to wrinkle his nose. Moreover this Bangalore rain is not as calm as that of Mangalore. It is more furious and harsh and very chilling. Plus God had decided to play childish and was clicking photos like anything. My husband could have called me up; I could have come with an umbrella. When I said that, he just said ‘that is why I did not call you.’ He was grinning with such a childish bliss; I had to try real hard not to smile.  After I dried his hair with the towel, when I saw him, I knew he might have missed me in the rain. I remembered the days before wedding when he used to tell me his fantasies (most of them copied from bollywood masala movies) and this was one. Whatever, I kept my frown intact. He might’ve thought that I was still angry with him but I was not. I was jealous!

Bangalore climate is very weird, like a kid. Now it wants sun so sun is out. Next moment it might start raining also. I wonder how it will be for kids who study the 4 seasons in school. You cannot see the 4 seasons here for a year. In fact, you can see all the 4 seasons here every day. Daily it is sunny, rainy and chill.  The other day when I was returning from the market (to my luck I was not having an umbrella), it was sunny and suddenly started raining.
Mirchi bhajji.. Slurrrpppp!!!
Luckily the place I stopped was in front of the guy who sells hot mirchi bhajji (gram flour coated big green chillies fried in excess oil). I quickly bought 5 of them.  There were so many people so I had to stand under the shop shelter so that I don’t look stupid. I dreaded the possibility of my precious mirchi bhajjis getting cold when I reach home. I impatiently waited for the rain to slow down a bit, gave up and started walking quickly. In no time, I was in my lane and there were no people around. I walked really slowly letting my arms go wide and like Shah Rukh Khan says, ‘Baarish ki har boond ko apne dil tak pahunchne do’, I let the rain drops reach my heart. That was a heavenly feeling. When I reached home all drenched, I took a deep breath as the excitement had made my brain stop working. I checked on the mirchi bhajji. It was still very hot. So I quickly prepared a cup of strong masala tea and meanwhile changing to something warm. The loud music of the rain outside, the wet hair, the warm clothes, the hot and spicy mirchi bhajji and hot strong masala tea had taken me to another world of ultimate bliss.

Back in June 2006, I had my first experience of getting drenched in rain. My two friends and I were returning home from college. It was still summer and it started drizzling and we knew the rainy season had started. The rain drops falling on the hot ground made sounds that were more like a water drop on a hot frying pan. Soon there was sweet smell of fresh mud and it started raining heavily. I was the only one who had an umbrella and one of my friends was feeling feverish. We walked with her in the middle; getting complete protection from the rain. After we dropped her home, we started walking and realized there was no one around. We exchanged a crooked smile, ditched the umbrella and started walking casually. In no time, we were completely drenched. I could see the drops of water dripping from my friend’s nose tip and realized my nose was dripping too. My sight was blurred by my moist eyes. I felt like a kid- carefree and innocent. When I reached home, I knew what reason to tell mom- my friend was feeling sick (which was slightly true. Momma thanks for not getting mad at me after reading this post!).

That day I learnt a lesson. It is never too late to have a happy childhood (not that I didn’t have a good one. I had a great one thanks to my sis.). But the second one is up to you and no one else.

:D

Reminded me of the school days when we used to wait after the school got over for the rains to start. And only after it would start raining would we set off for home on our bikes. :P

I was also surprised by the Bangalore weather when I visited there for the first time earlier this year. It was sunny when we landed there but started raining out of nowhere by the time we reached our destination.

By the way, should the Bangalore Airport really be considered to be in Bangalore ? :D

And guess what, I was to write a post on exactly the topic on which you ended your post. A co-incidence. You'll find it most probably by tomorrow morning. :-)
